Junior Registration - FAQ

Is there an initial muster or information day?

The Morrinsville Junior Football Open Day will be held on Saturday, 10th of March from 9 - 10:30am.

  • Sausage Sizzle BBQ ($2 per sausage)
  • Meet the Club Crew
  • Boot Library will be open.  (Swap existing boots to the next size up, or fit a new pair for a donation of your choice)

Are there training sessions for junior teams?

Training sessions times will vary and are determined by the coach of the team for a weekday afternoon between 3:30pm and 6pm.   Here's an example training schedule from the 2023 season.

What equipment is needed for football?

The club will supply each player with a game-day playing jersey and players need to provide the following items.

  • Pair of plain black shorts
  • Pair of plain black socks
  • Shin pads
  • Football Boots
  • Ball
    • 5 - 8th grade: Size 3
    • 9 - 13th grade: Size 4
    • 14th grade: Size 5

What days and times are games played?

Junior Football is played on Saturday mornings with kick off starting from 9am to 11:30am for most teams.  

What time frames are usually played?

Please refer to this WaiBOP resource for game formats for all grades.

JUNIOR FRAMEWORK – PLAYING FORMATS 2024

5th - 8th grade:  2 x 20 minute games per week.

9th - 10th grade: 1 x 50 minute game per week (2 x 25 minute halves)

11th - 12th grade:  1 x 60 minute game per week (2 x 30 minute halves)

13th - 14th grade: 1 x 70 minute game per week (2 x 35 minute halves)

 

How far travel might be throughout the season?

Morrinsville Junior teams in 5th to 7th grade will play in our local competition with Te Aroha teams.  Saturday games alternate between Morrinsville Rec. Grounds and Te Aroha Boyd Park with games beginning at 9am each Saturday.

Junior teams in the 8th to 14th grade play in the wider WaiBOP competition for the Waikato region.
